Every claim in this chapter is traced to the source behind it. Below is each one, numbered as it appears in the book, with a link that opens the original.
- NHS-funded Nursing Care weekly rate. From 1 April 2026, in the 2026/27 tax year, this is £267.68 a week in England. Check the current figure at [ageingparent.co.uk/s/fnc-rate-2026-27](https://ageingparent.co.uk/s/fnc-rate-2026-27) — this changes each April.

The NHS-funded Nursing Care Practice Guidance (Department of Health and Social Care, July 2022, implemented 1 July 2022\) sets out the operational detail behind this test.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-framework-for-nhs-continuing-healthcare-and-nhs-funded-nursing-care - National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care, on the NHS paying the weekly rate directly to the care home, and the default expectation that your parent's own fee falls by the same amount, unless a different contracting arrangement is in place.
www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-framework-for-nhs-continuing-healthcare-and-nhs-funded-nursing-care - Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, decision 19 004 419: a care home was found at fault for a contract that was silent on how NHS-funded Nursing Care would be treated, and was ordered to refund the FNC payment it had received to the resident's estate, and to clarify its information for residents. This is one decision, not a rule that applies automatically to every contract — search the Ombudsman's own decisions database for others like it, since individual decisions are not a substitute for your parent's own contract.
